 Antivirus is a program that protects your computer from malicious software that originates from the internet. A virus searches for the methods in which it performs three actions:

Antivirus deals with both internal and external security threats. It is implemented only in software without implementing it in hardware also.       

 Firewall vs. antivirus

A firewall and an antivirus are interchangeable terms in cybersecurity. Both serve to protect the hardware and software of a computer. Despite this, firewalls and antivirus software differ fundamentally.

In a nutshell, a firewall is a hardware-based and software-based security system designed to protect and monitor a private internet network and a computer. A computer antivirus is a program that removes threats to the system to prevent them from being destroyed.

You cannot protect yourself against viruses and malware with a firewall.  If you want to keep your computer safe from potential threats, you should also implement an antivirus program as well as a firewall.

Difference between firewall and antivirus

Firewall

·        Protecting networks and computer systems is the purpose of a firewall. 

·        Firewalls generally use a "packet filter" because they filter all incoming data packets for malicious content.

·        The primary function of a firewall is to monitor network traffic and prevent unauthorized access to it.

·        Firewalls work at the network protocol level to defend against unwanted intrusions.

·        Firewalls are limited in their capabilities because they cannot both block internal and external attacks.

·        Dec Seal was the first commercial firewall program launched in 1992. A team of American computer scientists was responsible for its creation.

 Antivirus

·        An antivirus application protects a computer system from being attacked by malware, Trojan horses, spyware, etc.

·        The antivirus software identifies any weaknesses present in a computer system and repairs them.

·        Antivirus software scans a computer system, detects threats, prevents them, and removes them.

·        An antivirus program detects any harmful programs installed on the computer, including viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and so on.

·        It is one of the limitations of antivirus security software that it cannot check read-only files.

·        In 1987, a German computer security expert, Bernard Robert Fix, created a program to remove a virus that infected files in a DOS-based system.
